Tesla and Katharine
|
This is a ballet story about Nikola Tesla, one of the most significant scientist/inventors of the 20th century. It is set in New York, during Tesla's prime at the turn of the 19th century. At that time his best friends were Robert Johnson, an American romantic poet and his wife Katharine. Tesla shared a deep understanding and affection for Katharine that could be interpreted to have consequently led to her illness and death. During that time his great discovery, alternating current (AC) powered the world's first hydropower station in Niagara Falls, financed by George Westinghouse, which was opposed by Thomas Edison, who waged a 'war of the currents' (Edison's DC against Tesla's AC), which resulted in Edison's support for the construction and use of the electric chair (powered by AC). This ballet Starring Konstantin Kostuykov and Gordana Simic and the International Dance Company Singidunum is simply beautiful! Music by Piotr Ilich Tchaikovsky. |
